About Ali

Ali Kennedy Scott is an actor, writer and theatre-maker. Her most recent roles include Gertrude Stein in ‘A SERIOUS BANQUET’ ( at New York Theatre Workshop), Blanche in the sold out season of ‘THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND ( Darlinghurst Theatre Sydney), ‘DREAM PLAYS – IT ENDED working alongside David Greig (Traverse Edinburgh)’.

Ali is a graduate of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, UK – the classical theatre institution founded by Sir Laurence Olivier. Following graduation, Ali wrote and toured her solo show, ‘THE DAY THE SKY TURNED BLACK’ to NY, Edinburgh and throughout Australia. Inspired by interviews with survivors of Australia’s Black Saturday Bushfires, this work earned Ali several awards including ‘Excellence in Solo Performance’ at the New York International Fringe and Sydney Fringe Festivals, as well as People’s Choice for Best Play of the Sydney Fringe.

Ali has trained extensively in collaborative theatre making and is a graduate of Anne Bogart’s SITI Company Conservatory. She is currently collaborating with several artists in NYC as part of SITI LAB.

In 2013 & 2014 Ali created an artist-in residence program in conjunction with the Australian Business and Community Network. Funded by JP Morgan, the program saw Ali work with 200 students in Western Sydney to create & direct 11 new theatre works inspired by the students’ lives and stories. The work entitled ‘PARAMATTA NOW’, has recently been nominated for a Zest award.

Ali also has a First Class Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Sydney and has worked advising large corporations on business strategy in both Australia & New York.

Ali is a grateful recipient of the Ian Potter Cultural Trust, the Australia Council Emerging Artist Grant, the Cybec Foundation, and the American Australian Association’s Dame Joan Sutherland Fund.
